Artist Statement:
Art depicting war and military subjects succeeds only if the artist centers on the compelling nature of great military art or any art – the human condition. At the subconscious level compelling military art depicts the brutality and shock of war juxtaposed against its euphoria and beauty. Compositionally the war painting evokes a primal love or lust of the beauty of the human figure. A war painting can balance compassion, tenderness and love as well as the darker side of human nature.
A love of humanity and the duality of mankind coupled with a fascination with history is what drives me to paint themes related to warfare.
