Artist Statement:
Mark Reep’s intimate, richly detailed Ink, Graphite, and Charcoal drawings invite close examination: “The more closely you look,” Mark says, “the more you'll find in them. My drawings offer windows on quiet places, quiet moments. They’re about solitary wanderings, about daydreams, reflections. They’re about drawing a calming breath, or seizing inspiration- Moments when, as Robert Henri said, ‘we seem to see beyond the usual.’ And so, hopefully my drawings may serve as doors of a sort, as well.”
"Each drawing begins with a pencil sketch on heavyweight, acid-free Bristol Board; I then begin creating inked elements using the traditional pen-and-ink technique of stippling. Building up layers of tiny ink dots is seldom quick work- But in an age of digital image editors, this time-honored process remains my medium of choice, and the best way I’ve found to develop most textures I want to achieve."
"Other elements are often begun with powdered charcoal, applied with much less traditional tools, including cotton balls and Q-Tips.
