Artist’s Statement
Paul Pauper has recieved formal training in art and design from the University of Washington, Vashon Allied Arts, South Seattle Community College, Fremont Arts Council and Centrum, Port Townsend Washington.
Paul Pauper undertook a series of paintings intended as an homage and updated version of the Futurist movement of the early 20th Century. The architects of futurism were concerned with mechanization, noise and speed as figments of moderne inspiration.
The series Paul Pauper is familiarly associated with is Visiogeometric Angelic Visitation, a series of paintings executed at the rate of a painting a week for an entire year. A year-long prayer to beseech the non-corporeal plane to rescue our misguided mania for metallic talismans.
Today, the industrial revolution has eviscerated the natural world; mechanization has produced breast implants and the hummer, the rolling artform of american aggression. Noise is a genre of music, and speed is being taken by children in junior high to get high.
This series of paintings seeks to assuage the blunt force trauma the futurists rightly predicted our gun manufacturing lusts have spawned.
