Artist Statement:
Pei-San grew up in Hawaii
surrounded by natural
beauty—blue skies, cobalt
seas, green foliage, and
vividly colorful flowers. As a
young girl, she often helped
her mother around the family’s
Hawaiian coral shop in
Waikiki. From this first
experience with organic
jewelry grew her lifelong love
of natural and unique jewelry
materials.
Pei-San began designing
jewelry as gifts for family
and friends in 1994. She
earned bachelor's degrees in
dance and biology from the
University of California at
Irvine, and a master’s degree
in education from the
University of Texas at Austin.
While studying for her
doctorate, she found that
designing and handcrafting
jewelry helped her relax after
a long day of studying and
working. People began
commissioning custom jewelry
designs from her after they
saw her adorned in her
wearable art.
Pei-San is the founder,
president, and principal
jewelry designer of Pei-San,
Inc. At her studio in Austin,
she creates one-of-a-kind,
limited edition, exclusive,
and custom-made jewelry
designs from natural
gemstones, pearls, crystals,
and other interesting and
unique beads.
