Artist Statement:
In making art, immediate
impact is a consistent goal
and essential component of my
work. Moreover, it is perhaps
most essential that
innovations and intellectual
complexities do not get in the
way of the message, meaning or
theme conveyed. My works focus
on color, its presence,
absence and its intellectual
and emotional representation;
the correlation with shape,
form, line and intensity is a
less pragmatic but equally
valued creative concern. I
generally employ many
disciplines and principles
when approaching and indeed
refining a work of art. I
address and discard or amplify
each construct numerous times
in sketch and thought before
committing to composition or
even orientation. My work
appeals to the general
audience. My influences come
from a variety of contemporary
artists and superb draftsman,
Andrew Wyeth, Pearlstein,
Escher, and of course the
mastery of Da Vinci, Raphael
and Michelangelo. Current
major influences include great
colorists, impressionists and
prolific pastel artists such
as Mary Cassatt, Degas, Wayne
Thiebaud and Jim Dine....
