Artist Statement:
As a child growing up in Palm Springs, California, Stephanie began showing an interest in art by emulating her artist mother. At an early age she favored paint boxes over dolls and soon began expressing her everyday experiences on paper. Throughout her schooling, art was a major focus in her studies. She began selling her paintings at off campus street fairs while studying at the University of California at Berkeley.
Although Stephanie constantly experiments with various mediums, she has found the most joy in watercolor. Like many other artists, she appreciates the immediacy and spontaneity of this medium. She is inspired by the works of John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and other American Impressionists.
Stephanie’s passion for painting is captured in those special moments in time she feels compelled to share with her viewers. “They are portraits of a singular moment, captured immediately by camera and quick sketches then transformed by my memories, emotions and style. I hope to share that moment with the viewers, as well as to evoke memories of similar moments in their own lives.
