Edward Walton Wilcox: Crimes Of Romance
Cella Gallery -
North Hollywood, CA USA United States of America

Cella Gallery is thrilled to present Edward Walton Wilcox’s second solo exhibition in Los Angeles this year, “Crimes of Romance.” The exhibit will feature the gamut of Wilcox’s diverse and dark imaginations, including paintings, drawings, installation and sculpture. A follow up from his March show, “Are You Going With Me?” in West Hollywood, “Crimes” leaves the world of tabloid imagery and exposes his darkest dreaming; hand-carved Gothic altarpieces stand eight feet high while young maidens in nightgowns and child-size skeletons are captured in landscapes of blazing windmills. The opening reception will be hosted by Wilcox collectors Natalie Zea, from ABC’s Dirty, Sexy Money and Travis Schuldt (Scrubs, NBC) on the evening of October 16.

JEFFAR KHALDI: With you, Without Ever Seeing You
John Martin Gallery -
London, UK United Kingdom

In October the John Martin Gallery will be holding the first European exhibition of the Palestinian painter Jeffar Khaldi. The winner of the Grand Prize at the Sharjah Biennial in 1997, Khaldi is regarded as one of the most significant new painters working in the Middle East today. Combining pop imagery with political references, religious symbolism and text, the fantasy landscapes in which they are set become a constant reminder of an unattainable dream; a personal account of the longings, frustrations and anger of a displaced Arab diaspora.

Artblogs - Art Blogs:

FEAR IS THE NEW BLACK
Michael Corbin, USA
Can the signs of a great opportunity for emerging artists be any more clear? Apparently, not even the threat of a worldwide, economic calamity can shake them from the sanctity of their creative wombs ... also known as their studios. I'll come back to that in a moment.
I've just read that a couple of the big, overseas contemporary art auctions had disappointing sales. Why? Blame the economy, of course. It seems that even the well-heeled are
guarding their wallets and purses for fear of losing it all in some grotesque bailout scenario. What cracks me up is the fact that all of the major art publications are trying to predict the next art market crash. Will it happen this year or next? Who will lose out? Could Damien Hirst finally see his $100 million, diamond-encrusted skull finally reduced, becoming worth nothing more than a shell of its former glory?
