Artist Statement:
Wooden sculptures carved on pencils by Dr. Ahmet Çanga are perhaps some of the smallest in the world, with dimensions ranging from 0.7x3.0 cm to 0.7x20.0 cm.
The sculptures unite figurative expressions and the subjects, transforming them into subjective interpretations.
Figurative expressions include those of mythology, love and communication. And the material is simply a pencil.
Yes, a pencil… A pencil that turns into a sculpture through neat, detailed patient work.
Engraving many abstract topics of life such as love, depression, bashfulness, innocence and gossip, Dr. Çanga gave life to ordinary pencils throughout his university years.

The talkativeness of a gossip is expressed by a face composed of only mouth and teeth; his/her curiosity is expressed by a keyhole on the head; that a gossip needs no brain to chatter is articulated by an empty head; that s/he would go on gossiping is reflected by the foot on the abdominal region; and that gossiping cannot be attributed to a specific age is expressed by a fit bust symbolizing youth, next to a flabby bust symbolizing oldness… all on a single pencil, ...
