Artist Statement for Linda Adreveno

Born in San Francisco, Linda Adreveno has been creating art since she was 10 and has participated in several exhibitions in the Bay Area as well as other parts of the country.

Text often finds its way into her work. “I have always been drawn to words, their power to heal and to hurt, to be innocently conveyed and at times grossly misunderstood. They also serve as a creative force, communicating concepts and ideas, influencing perceptions, and creating connections.”

At her studio in Hunters Point Shipyard she uses newsprint and newspaper headlines as the foundation for her work. The text is cut up and collaged together before being painted. This process is repeated several times to create and convey complexity and depth. “Each piece is intended to be like a conversation” … big and small words, disjointed and unfinished thoughts, pauses and often emotion all seemingly jumbled together. “ While there is certain precision and deliberateness in putting them together there is an organic element in the process that truly determines what each will look like in the end."
