Artist Statement:
With "Night Shadow" and "Dusk" I'm using a technique of layering dripped candle wax. These paintings are a sculptural visualisation and expression of rain on a window. Living in this country, with the weather, it is impossible not to find yourself staring out the window on a cold wet day. These are some of the strongest memories I have. It always seems that everyone has a memory of watching raindrops falling and linking together down the glass. With these paintings I'm trying to capture the emotions and the aura.
Using oils and candle wax, with a series of layering, the painting starts to form a textural and sculptural picture. Starting with the emotion and expression, I choose the colour formats and canvas sizes. Then gently pour small amounts of wax from a lit candle. The wax falls in short flat strips. After several layers, the wax starts to fall into long strengthened droplets, creating the moments in time when we find ourselves watching the rain fall.
"Caught By My Soul"
To commute in Dublin is a painful experience. As I walk around the streets, the cold cement that surrounds me is now reflected in its population.
