Why I work with wood
I work with wood because its organic natural beauty is complex, as is our relationship to it. Wood is very much a part of our lives, everyday we use and come into contact with items made of it. Trees are pleasing to our eye. They provide a sense of security and shelter to our existence. It is this reason for which wood is part of our nature. After harvesting the tree, its spirit lives-on. It has a second life for which it provides shelter, security and aesthetic beauty. With hands and tools it is transformed into a beautiful material, which is warm, desirable to touch, and soothing to our souls.
My work and its relationship to You
I use wood to express my creativity. It gives voice to my desire to share with you the beauty I see around me - the beauty in nature, in technology, in human endeavor. While my style is subtle, my designs are bold. Your highest compliment to my work is when you feel compelled to touch it, to feel it come alive under your fingers. My intent is to interest your eye and to excite your mind. My work will enrich your environment as it compliments your desire to have a piece that is unique to your taste.
My Quest
My quest is to create a bond between the objects I create and the people who will treasure them. The challenge in working with wood is to find the best way to enhance its natural beauty. Individual character must be integrated into the whole of the form. It takes my skilled craftsmanship and my artistic talent to transform a tree’s first life into it’s second life as a new object of beauty. Achieving that delicate balance between form and function is my greatest challenge. Knowing others appreciate the results of my efforts is my greatest reward.
