Artist Statement:
I established myself as an
artist in Cape Town in around
1994. Starting of as a
decorative pop artist, bright,
colourful, graphic renderings
of fruit and flowers, was very
typical of my earlier work,
with a strong influence of
Iconography. Over the past few
years my work has gradually
developed into more abstract,
yet positive design statements
and spontaneous, dreamscape
expressions of energy. In my
recent work, I draw strong
inspiration from colours of
the African landscape, the
textures and symbols from our
combined cultures. In my work
I celebrate the creative and
spiritual energy of our time
and pay tribute to diverse
richness of our culture.
As a visual person and
compulsive collector,
travelling is always an
exciting challenge for me.
Exploring the new, the
stimulation of culture and the
constant feed of information
is yet another immense source
of inspiration. The works
displayed here are all a
result of this wonderful
inspiration - whether it is
the beautiful pride of the
Barcelona Market, the sadly
majestic windmills of
Mallorca, the wacky Gaudi
Architecture, the kitsch
iconic Toro or Jesus Child, or
the strangely suppressed
atmosphere of Prague, to me
these elements blur into one
exciting and creative
