| Your Personal Biography |
Originally from Canada, I graduated from Daemen College in New York in 1994 with a degree in Illustration. I’ve lived in East Nashville since 1996. Currently, I teach art and media at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin and take on commissioned work year-round. I am a representational artist and do a lot of portraits, but I also do illustration, figure studies, landscapes and interiors. I work in oil, watercolour, charcoal, and graphite.
I am a member of the Portrait Society of America and a past member of the Tennessee Art league. My work is commissioned internationally. I have shown in both group and solo shows in the Nashville area, and most recently won 1st place in oil at the 2006 Tennessee Art League’s Juried Member Exhibition.
What calls to me, and what has always called to me, are stories and people. I try to show the relationships between people, the stories that individual faces have to tell. If I have captured something of a person that is recognized by the viewer, then I have succeeded. I am inspired by the human figure. It is graceful and beautiful, and there is so much that can be revealed through the body’s movements.
My motivation is in my environment. I am inspired by being around my students, having a musician as a husband, and a stepdaughter that dances.
Art to me is joy and passion, hard work and perseverance, patience and meditation.
