Artist Statement for Allison Compton

|
I am interested in the angelic, diabolic, dynamic curvaceous forms and hues of nature foreboding intersection with contemporary culture. Thick pitter patter blobs of paint dominate the flat surface. Underneath are underpaintings of words of emotions as well as snapshots of scenery or abstract collaborations with my nephew. The calculated bleeding and blending of paint caused by chemical reactions demonstrate the serendipity of life – sometimes successful and sometimes hardly noticeable. Visually the paintings confront the viewer on an aesthetic subjective level regarding style. Synthesizing techniques used by the Fauves, Pointillists and Abstract Expressionists, I enlarge the dots, turn color and form into camouflage, create, destroy and let the will of the paint and mineral spirits dictate the transitions.
