Artist Statement:
Andrei Marina was born 1960 in Cluj region, in the middle of Transylvania.
He grew up in a multicultural area with a strong sense of tradition and religiousness. Andrei has witnessed art in it's various forms since the very beginning because his home land is also known world wide for its superb crafts and popular art.
The strong cultural influences had a great impact on Andrei's evolution towards becoming an artist. He started studying art when the times got harder. The communism regime started using art for its own propaganda.
Convinced that art can't be subdued by the narrow minds of the people of the regime, Andrei Marina pursued his own perceptions in sculpture, denying the evil politic influence. He constantly participated to national and international exhibitions thus making his work known both before and after the Romanian Revolution (the overthrow of Ceausescu and the communist regime in December 1989).
His talent became recognized even before 1990 as he was asked to lead a sculptors team in the decoration of Ceausescu's "People's House" (People's House was Ceausescu's greatest architectural ambition. Its construction required huge sacrifices from the people and became one of the ...
