Artist Statement for Andrew Kosten

The American Bloodlust culture of violence and cruelty has had the most profound effect on the decision making process involved in creating this imagery. Through the use of physical and environmental metaphor it is my intention to shed light on the frequent and mundane mishaps of all too often complacent public consciousness. Themes that have remained somewhat consistent in my work include the influence of the powerful few over the unsuspecting many, the hilarity and whimsical nature of the ever so complicated human psyche, and the function of the individual in relation to their culture or environment.Throughout the history of art as in the contemporary, issues involving the human condition have provided the most challenging and engaging critiques of human behavior. This use of allegorical imagery hopes to engage in that conversation.
