Artist Statement:
“Squares make me feel static.”
“Surfaces without dimension
make me feel boxed in.”
A few insights into an
intriguingly unusual display
of artistic expressions by
Anil Rane.
An old wooden clock was all it
took to let my imagination
guide my brush. Using it as a
link to a generation gone by,
he has recreated an era that
now seems from a different
world. The paintings do not
purposely project the past as
glorious, but rather as a box
that has been lying long
forgotten in the attic.
I have discovered it and
decided to reminisce it, as
one would when thumbing
through an old album that
holds fond memories. And as I
hit 'rewind' the curtains
reveal 'Ateet' exhibiting a
potpourri of objects that he
has 'sepia toned' into a
collection of objets d'art.
An old radio that play back to
you a favourite tune, of your
grandfather's perhaps;
a tin sheet that amazingly
goes about telling you to
block of all the noise around
you…and that's just the first
coat!
The display however, did not
intend to provoke any
discomfort, but rather
unsuspectingly tried to prod
us in a direction that we
willingly left...
