Artist Statement for Anita Billings

My name is Anita Rayburn-Billings. I am a graduate of Vincennes University with an associates degree in Fine Arts. Vincennes University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design.
I have also attended the University of Southern Indiana where I was working toward my Bachelors in Fine Arts. This has been put on hold in order to be a stay-home mother.

Although I am at home I have continued to work on my art. This includes creating painted windows and interior murals with my friend and co-artist Carol Moore. I also have taught drawing to elementary and high school students. I am active in the arts community in Vincennes donating my time to art-related fundraisers, inventorying the art in the Red Skelton collection and serving as a Co-President of the Northwest Territory Art Guild with Carol Moore.

My paintings, many of which are night paintings, are a combination of my dreams and imagination. Recently I had become fascinated with the aurora borealis and created five paintings featuring this phenomena.
I also enjoy doing still lifes and landscapes and some figurative work.
Photography is also another interest of mine as well as working three-dimensionally. In all reality, I find every aspect of Art to be intriging and I love to try new mediums and techniques.

One of the mottos for myself and Carol has been "Put us to the Challenge". We get requests to do many different kinds of art and it does not phase us. We research a lot to find the answers that we need.

In 2004 Carol and I collaborated on a Vincennes Santa painting featuring a French voyageur costumed Santa leading a pack reindeer towards Grouseland, the home of President William Henry Harrison. This painting, released in a limited edition of 200 signed and numbered prints, celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Harrison mansion and also that of the Indiana Gazette. Our next print and painting will be released in November of 2005.
