Artist Statement for Anita Hagan

|
Welcome to my page! My studio and home are in Edgewater, Maryland in a small cottage on the Chesapeake Bay. I have worked in the medium of linoleum block for over 20 years, and have developed a unique technique. I carve the block, paint a piece of Korean Kozo rice paper with Golden acrylics, roll black ink over the block and finally lay the painted paper over the block and hand rub until the impression is made. The result is an exciting and vibrant piece of artwork in which the motion of the brushstrokes are matched with the powerful carved effect of the block. I am inspired both by the natural world and all it's unkempt beauty, as well as the incredible human spirit.
I welcome commissions and most of my work is available both framed and unframed. Please email me if you have any questions.
