Artist Statement:
Why painting is important to
me:
I believe a painting is the
primeval art form – the
portrayal of the very soul of
man and an expression of man’s
thought and energy. Each
painting is either a prayer or
a salutation: a sign that you
listen to the real and the
imaginary. For me, the
gratification that comes from
going through the motions of
painting is significant and is
absolutely essential to my
well-being and in this way I
am conscious of being totally
selfish.

Inspired by my dearest
Ammoomma (my grandmother), my
darling children, my failures
and triumphs, Ayn Rand,
Richard Bach, The Eagles,
world poverty and inequality,
MS Subbalakshmi’s
Suprabhatham, chocolate, Gods
and goddesses, virgin canvas
and paper, Advaita Vedanta and
all of nature’s luminous
beauty. (In no specific order)

Stirred by the natural world:
The brilliant green of new
leaves and shoots, stubborn
dewdrop clinging to a blade of
grass, sunrays filtered by the
clouds, magnificient sunrises,
smell of the first rain,
tadpoles in a pond, music of
the waves whispering to the
beach, the full moon with
remarkable shadows, a new
rosebud, rushing waterfall,
the brilliant night sky, the
fine desert sand, brilliant
...
