Artist Statement:
I create bold, colorful paintings of whimsical cityscapes, roadscapes, people, and animals. Dogs are central to much of my imagery, my canines, Izzy & Alice bring constant inspiration. My lively city and rural scenes are influenced by my love of the city coupled with my love of the rural surroundings I experienced while growing up in small-town Sparta, Wis. I also do many “road-trip” paintings I think these can be a metaphor for the colorful journey I’m on in my everyday life. My paintings also often include people and animals flying over city and landscapes, inspired by dreams of flying - which are said to symbolize happiness.
My style is a mix of contemporary folk and urban pop art, I am a self-taught painter. I started painting over 10 years ago as a creative outlet - to ‘save my soul’ from a stressful corporate job, which I left behind in 1996. I currently work out of my chicago studio and exhibit my paintings at Fine Art Fairs and local Galleries, I also do some illustration and create custom dog and pet portraits.
