Artist Statement:
Antoine Gilbert Dubeauclard began his life in London Ontario from two French parents. The family moved back to France shortly after birth and subsequently moved to Larchmont NY in the late 1980s. In the 1990s, after a brief stint in Yorkville and travels throughout the QC and ON Antoine landed back in Rochester Hills, a suburb of Detroit - roughly 2 hours away from his birthplace.
This strange circularity of life has not lost its humour on Antoine, who spends his life analyzing urban symbols as if he lived in a Herman Hesse book.
The artwork of Antoine, whether in traditional medium format black and white photography or in experimentations with wet on wet oils of comic book strips always reflects a certain quality of exploration and return to roots.
As a founding member of MONA Museum of New Art and as principal of Media Genesis (www.mediaG.com) Antoine uses the art context in his life to reflect, react and engage with an ever growing collection of artistic expression....
