Artist Statement for Anton Vogels
|
|
|
Sydney artist Anton Vogels describes his art as "Pneumatic Art imaging".
This art form is somewhat similar to the way a Blacksmith hammers hot iron into shapes.
Anton uses the same hammering idea with air pressure on paint and ink. The image results are an "Interlaced Calligraphy of Fractal Images". Anton's pneumatic technique is similar to “Glass Blowing". All his art images are made by hand and the “Breath of Life”.
In 1979,"The International Year of the Child", Anton published a small book on this pneumatic art by the title of, "The Secret of the Folded Bee". ISBN 0-9594710-0-6(Out of print).
The story-line is about a Honey-bee, disguised as the book, and teaches the children how to "pneumatically" make flower shapes and other life forms. The Australian Bibliographic Index of 1980 classified this book as “Visual Art and Literature for Juveniles”.
Over the last 20 years Anton has taught hundreds of school children in Sydney, how to image their art by using the pneumatic technique. The school children are also taught how to describe their art images with literature. This art in turn helps the school children as a catalyst for their other school tasks, finding new ways of understanding their studies.
The children find new points if view and turn teach others as well.
Anton's main media are Indian ink, Poster paints, Chinagraph Pencils, Derwent Colouring Pencils, Onglazes.
Imaging is done with Pen and or with Brush on Canvas, Arches special Paper, Various Card Boards, Emu Egg Shells, Ceramic and Stone Tiles.
