Artist Statement for Stewart Parkinson

Art should speak for itself, and it should speak to the viewer in the form of a discourse, not a lecture. As such, I don't have very much of a statement to make here.
I draw light, and my favorite subject is the human form. Anatomy provides very little room for error. We are so intimately familiar with faces and bodies that the slightest error shouts itself out. This is part of the challenge; but the reward is to illustrate just how beautiful the human body can be.
Be aware that scans of my drawings do not come across as soft as the original artwork - the light of the scan is reflected back and causes some harshness to appear that is not seen in the original.
