Your Personal Biography Arrieta-Eskarzaga was born in 1964 to a prominent Basque family in Durango, Mexico. He is the youngest of three children. His father is an attorney who was a public functionary for many years and who is also a talented sculptor. His mother, a housewife, is a talented painter who recreates famous paintings by artists such as Fragonard and Van Dyke. When Arrieta-Eskarzaga was eight, his parents separated. His mother then brought him and his siblings to Los Angeles to be raised by an aunt and uncle in Granada Hills, California. Arrieta-Eskarzaga won the 'outstanding art award' of his school as well as local and national art competitions. When he was 16, Arrieta-Eskarzaga's mother relocated him and his siblings to Mexico City. While there, he took the rigorous admission exams to enter Mexico's Military Academy, where he spent 3 years. Arrieta-Eskarzaga then went to law school in Mexico City. He then moved to his native Durango where he studied an additional 2 years of law school. At the end of 1986, his first son was born. Shortly thereafter, Arrieta-Eskarzaga moved back to Los Angeles. While going to college, he chose to become a painter and a sculptor. Then in 1991, his second son was born.

Arrieta-Eskarzaga had always had a deep respect for classical art. In painting, he admired Da Vinci, Raphael, Velazquez, Zurbaran, Caravaggio and Vermeer to mention a few. In sculpture, he admired Greek and Roman works as well as those of Michelangelo, Berninni, and others. When he first became an artist, he began to research and study the works of Rodin. In 1995, he and his second family traveled throughout Europe making Barcelona their base. While in Europe, he carefully analyzed the artworks in the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, El Prado, The Picasso Museum, Galleria dell'Accademia as well as the architecture from different countries and periods in history. After his stay in Europe, he researched and studied more closely the works of Dali, Braque, Picasso as well as those of Archipenko, Brancussi, Lipchitz, among others. Meanwhile, Arrieta-Eskarzaga explored various fields within art including portrait sculpture, surreal and abstract painting and sculpture. He has received a range of sculpture commissions and has had exhibitions and has participated in art shows. His sculpture has become part of public and private collections in the U.S., Japan, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Mexico and Germany. Arrieta-Eskarzaga has developed proposals for large-scale public sculpture. More recently, he has looked into (more in depth) the work and life of Leonardo Da Vinci. In the last four years, Arrieta-Eskarzaga traveled to Europe on several occasions. While in Europe, Arrieta-Eskarzaga has further examined the works of great artists while visiting various museums. In the last few years, Arrieta-Eskarzaga's interests have led him to more closely consider works by Van Gogh, Cezanne, Monet, Pisarro on the one hand and those of Kandinsky, Mondrian, Pollock, and Johns on the other.

Arrieta-Eskarzaga is currently working on a variety of painting techniques and is developing ideas for both small scale and large scale abstract sculpture. Arrieta-Eskarzaga lives and works in Los Angeles. He enjoys reading history, philosophy, sociology, science and poetry as well as writing essays on diverse subjects. He plays the piano and speaks English, Spanish, French and has a working knowledge of Italian.
