ANTONIO MARTI
(English)
Antonio Marti was born in Barcelona, Spain. He studied fine arts at the Institute Massanain his native city, and then entered into his investigative practices in studios in the region.
In 1951 he immigrated to Colombia where his work appeared in an exhibition of urban landscapes inspired by popular architecture, work impressively charged with poetic impact.
In his laboratory studio, he began an investigative process in which his combining oil paint with glass powder launched what became an extraordinary understanding of the alchemy of his materials. The necessity of invention and innovation in contemporary art is reflected in his work. Through elegance of color, the application of score of glazes, using tertiary colors as a point of departure. He has achieved a profound familiarity.
Since the decade of the 50’s, Marti has situated himself within the abstract expressionist movement. Influenced by the work of Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell and Jasper Johns. He frequently traveled to the United States, in particular to New York where he analyzed the large paintings in American Museums.
