Artist Statement:
The Two Sides of Me:
I am both an abstract artist as well as a conceptual artist. Intuition plays a significant role in my creativity and “mistakes” often become the strongest aspect of the painting. The finished art is an original textural composite of guiding light derived from both man and nature.
Abstract Art:
When I create an abstract piece of art I find inspiration by observing man made environments as well as elements found in nature. In both these arenas I’m able to manipulate expressions of light, color & texture.
The medium for my abstract art is oil & mixed media on canvas. For the mixed media part of my art I find and embed objects and/or images onto a textural surface. Then as a point of departure I remove or resurface some of those embedded objects and then paint into them.
Conceptual Art:
Regarding my conceptual art pieces I often am referencing a personal experience or making a social commentary.
The mixed media created is like a poem of imagery with layers of expression and meaning.
I consider my conceptual work to be form of artistic literature with images that have reflections, which are both personal and universal ...
