Artist Statement for Liam Herbert

Liam Herbert Sculptor

Liam Herbert began carving wood at the age of eight, under the tutelage of renowned abstract wood expressionist, Raoul Hague, in Woodstock, New York. This began a long life passion for sculptures as a medium for his art.

Liam's slender, angular wood carvings and limited edition bronze sculptures flow with inspiration, diversity, and beautiful expressions of life. His art explores the human conditions; such as fear, anger, grief, hope, faith, and love.

Five artists have influenced and inspired Liam's art forms. He states "I draw my inspiration from Modigliani, Brancusi, Giacometti, and Gustove Vigland, a famous Norwegian sculpture. Modigliani and Brancusi have given me an appreciation for the simplicity of forms. Giacometti has inspired me to do tall, slender figures. Vigland has excited my passion for family subjects. Another great love and friend, as well as artist-mentor, is the late Raoul Hague, who gave me the courage to carve in wood."

Liam's hands are led by his heart and soul, and he believes his mission as an artist is to share the insight and inspiration he receives in order that others may grasp a greater meaning to their own purpose in life.Liam's formal training was at the school of Visual Arts in New York City. He now resides in Sedona, Arizona. ::
