Artist Statement:
I am an artist who creates paintings that show a different side of life, the side where we are learning, discovering and living through the feeling that moves through our veins during the process, that rush that we feel. Her paintings suggest a reality stringing a type of personality extention of the subject in the painting by bringing together a surreal and abstract idea of what a person feels while they are experiencing life. ...

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
"Happiness" it is the best source of artist inspiration, because nothing else matters and my mind and hands are free from the worries of the world to focus on creating art. Music and art come hand in hand and when I see art and hear music I love and admire it, it fuels my heart to create. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I have always been an artist from the time I was in elementary school thru middle school. One day I was browsing through a college Humanities book I had bought from a yard sale in my high school History class and ran across Michelangelo's "Pieta." I studied it and was marveled that a human being made this piece of art with his own hands and then I thought of the possibilities of what I could possibly do if I set my mind to it. From there on I have drawn and painted. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I am Melissa Fiorentino a fine art painter , pencil artist, sculptor and ceramicist born in 1983. I was born in upstate New York and came to Florida in 1990. I have been drawing since I can remember, but what did it for me was seeing a photo of Michelangelo’s “Pieta.” I was about 14 looking at a humanities book I bought from a yard sale, because I have always had an interest in history, art and architecture. From that point on I knew what it was that was to fill my destiny, Art. I studied drawing with many different mediums and materials, working on the potters wheel and sculpting. I became a very fast learner and very self disciplined at a young age. Later, I studied at Central Florida Community College, where I was taught how to use my drawing skills and imply them into my painting.
I remember back when I started work on my first serious piece “Subjective Moment,” the painting was 48”x36” and the biggest work I have ever tried. The idea of working on a big piece of artwork was this undeniable feeling of self gratification, because I enjoyed working on something so huge and I never wanted it to end. I just wanted to paint it forever, it felt like a home I have never felt before. I had entered that painting into a contest at the college and won an award of merit. I was very happy, it was a sign that I needed to continue with what my heart was telling me. To Paint! As for the subjects I used in this particular painting, I found an old photo of a nude that had her back facing the audience and I had a connection with it. The woman in this photo was in a moment to herself, alone and in need of something to complete this image. During that time I was starting to discover older artists and ran across Piet Mandarin’s “Flowering Apple Tree” then knew what I needed to add; line-work and colors.
Subject matter is vital to me. I love to incorporate many different ideas using figures, lines, an array of color and images that reflect life in it’s personal subjective state. I paint a representational, abstract and a portrait all into one. It is a way to allow a way for there to be a reality and dream or nightmare enclosed onto one image. There is also a truth inside what we think as unreal, a truth that can make us happy, focused or simply just an escape…that is what I want to bring to the surface. Worlds inside of our minds that no one could touch or even deem to understand do exist and I show mine, through my artwork.
If I can get away with creating a piece of artwork that allows me to apply mixed media, a figure or an interesting focal point, use a variety of colors and incorporate my lines than I feel I have totally succeeded with a vision. Personally I have found that without a challenge and a unique powerful vision, the peice of art is weak and uninteresting, so that is why I choose the subject matter and images that I do choose. I strive to always convey a message whether from the ideas of morality or just simply something to do with everyday challenges of life, it is important for people to see this part of life that is sometimes ignored.
Challenge is very necessary for the growth of an artist, I always feel the need to challenge myself with every piece of artwork I do. It is a way for me to track my growth as an artist and as a person.
For me, Art is the escape from the reality of everyday life, a chance to leave this chaotic world for a while to a peaceful place. I know that is what I feel when I see a painting or anything that moves me and that is what I want to do for others give them an opportunity to do the same. I just hope to find that people can see something in my art that moves them, that makes them get goosebumps or makes them feel the need to stop every time they walk by……..
