Artist Statement:
“I title each piece using the name of the real life object so that the viewer is drawn into the image to explore the infinite possibilities of the photographic abstract and then to imagine and define what that reality is. Thus, the audience becomes an active part of the process...

New Direction in Contemporary Art
LAS VEGAS – Arthur Jacob, photographic artist, will have a showing of works titled Photographic Reality Reconstructed on April 7, from 6 – 10 pm at the L Maynard Galleries, Las Vegas, NV.
Jacob came to a conclusion a few years ago that his photography did not completely capture what he wanted to portray. He started to explore more closely the shapes, colors, movement and tones of an image separately and then as a whole. He comments, “What is most exciting and challenging to me is the abstraction that is created from the real image. My abstractions invite the viewer to imagine what the original image is as well as to offer the viewer the opportunity to discover the full spectrum of possibilities. Another way would be to describe my art as photographic reality reconstructed.”
As you talk to him about his art, you begin to notice a dichotomy between his persona and his work. Jacob himself is gentle and calm while his work is powerful and bold. He suggests that there is vibrancy in life which only becomes noticed when there is a contrast between calm and bold or color and black. “I want people to become aware of how variations in color and shapes speak to differences in an image, but when placed together produce a harmony.” Brian Paco Alvarez, Curatorial Director, L Maynard Galleries comments, “Arthur Jacob's works are quite simply the quintessential contemporary….”
When asked if photography is a form of fine art, Jacob says, “Yes. The camera, filters, techniques and technology become the paint brush. It is only since the technological development of sophisticated software that photographers and painters have decided to explore how the digital world can be applied to their works.” In Las Vegas, Jacob believes his approach to be unique.
