My paintings are done directly
from nature in a style
frequently referred to as
“painterly realism”. This term
implies an emphasis on
exploring color, form and
shape relationships by
manipulating paint. Paint is
both subject matter and means
of expression. What paint
looks like and what it can do
are major considerations.
Together these elements
provide a new subjective
reality rather than a literal
description.
The act of manipulating paint
has a very sensuous quality.
When done in conjunction with
selecting and combining
colors, shapes and form it is
very much like play; an
activity that is
simultaneously pleasing and
absorbing.
