Artist Statement:
Arash Bigdeli, born in 1968 Tehran-Iran, entered the University of Tabriz in 1987 majoring in Sociology. In the preceding year he worked as a decorative carpenter. Following that, he spent four years in jewellery design and manufacturing. After three and a half years of post-secondary education he came to the conclusion that under post-revolutionary circumstances he was unable to openly and unbiased conduct investigations on his research in social problems such as prostitution, poverty, and crime. At the same time
he became interested in pursuing a career in art and design, and as a consequence resigned from the University of Tabriz, merely a few credits shy of his BA Degree. His interest in art narrowed down to pottery after basic training with one of the best potters of Iran, Mehdi Anoushfar, and his assistant at the time, Iraj Dashti. After acquiring a year's worth of experiences, he began to take various courses in geometrical, organic, and figurative sculpture at The Art Studio Academy in Tehran. He taught pottery and sculpture to over 300 students over the span of plus ten years.
