Artist Statement:
With a background in painting, collage and mixed media, my current body of work is primarily photographic. The urge to manipulate and combine images never ceases though. In these works, compelling images are combined with language, either original or borrowed,
used either as titles or as texts.
In “Notice,” an inkjet print of a photo collage, I try to
come to terms with a trip to Jackson, Wyoming last
year that has haunted me for months. The incredible
experience of seeing a bison ten feet away on the side
of the road left me with an indelible feeling of exhilaration
followed by despair as I read in the Times that ranchers
have now lobbied successfully to shoot what they call
a proliferation of these grand beasts.
My re-worked photograph made ghostly by effects in
Photoshop is combined with other components: a
collaged image of an airdrop in postwar Berlin that
looks ominous (not reassuring), drops of what can
be blood or tears, an antique fragment of an envelope
announcing a death in France that I found in a
Paris flea market (knowing one day that the reason
why I required it would become clear to me),
