Artist Statement for Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch

How would I describe my work?
Spiritual/Abstract/Archetypal Expressionism. Using multiple/mixed mediums, connections, relationships & unity are explored through visual language elements, symbology, between one's inner-self (soul/spirit/life-force/essence), psyche & the outer world. Notions of passage, transition/change, duality, reflection, containment and synthesis/fusion are examples contemplated & reflected upon.
Who or what inspires me?
Although the human form and natural surroundings of tropical rainforest, mountains, beach and backyard have been and remain a constant and rich source for inspiration & materials to manipulate, I continue developing abstract visual imagery evolved from a sense of attachment with the thread, stitch, vessel and colour, exploring concepts and influences impacting on my senses, memory and perception.
