Artist Statement for Aleta Gudelski
From a pastoral New England landscape to the island setting of Haiti, Aleta captures the serenity, the pain and the wonders of man's world within which he lives. Connecticut artist Aleta Gudelski has been exhibited nationally in art shows and galleries. Her personal experiences in Haiti lead to a series of works painted in a multitude of mediums. This wonderful grouping was originally exhibited at the Pegasus Gallery, Middlesex Community College, Middletown, CT.
"Painting is my interior response to the world around me. I am driven, sometimes with passion sometimes with deep concern by the beauty and power, of the created world and its effect on man. My work continues to be a journey of letting go of myself and allowing the Divine to work through me and through my brush to capture images that reflect peace, at times tension and frequently subtle challenges. The Subject of my work most often reflects everyday life and encounters I experience as a woman, artist, mother, and teacher."
Living on a small farm in the town of Durham, CT. with her husband and family, Aleta finds that the quiet picturesque setting provides her with inspiration and atmosphere. " I cannot change the world, but I can create quiet centers within my art where others may consider its meaning." Aside from the quiet images for which she is known, Aleta has equally committed her talents to portray inner statements not easily made with words.
"The role of the artist is humble. He (she) is essentially a channel." - Piet Mondrian
Aleta holds a BS in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a M.A.L.S. from Wesleyan University. and a Post-Baccalaureate Degree from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Art. She has taught painting, drawing, and design, at both the secondary and college level for several years.
Aleta has exhibited in juried group shows throughout Connecticut. Included in her exhibits are: Zelka Gallery, Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. May, 1991-thesis exhibit: "Conversationa with Light".
