Artist Statement:
I am fortunate to live in an
incredibly historic and scenic
area so do not have to stray
far from my front door to find
rich subject matter for my
work. While not strictly a
genre painter it is a close
enough description of my
style. I paint to capture the
grace of historic
buildings,the quiet peace of a
grazing cow, an old barn, the
farm cat or farm
landscape...the occasional
unexpected still life. These
are the things I know, the
farm I grew up on, the smell
of hay and rain and earth and
the rich and rapidly vanishing
history around me.
I work in acrylic on canvas in
layers and glazes to enrich
the depth of my work and to
slow me down so that each
painting developes a character
in compliment to the image. I
occasionally paint in
miniaturea as well, requiring
a focus and concentration to
a point where painting becomes
a meditaion in itself.
Art has been a gift to me, so
I want people to look into my
paintings rather than look at
them...to sense my excitement
and in some cases to see the
humor in my work. I believe
