Artist Statement:
Creating an object to be worn on the body is an intimate process. The energy that I put into each piece mingles with the energy of the wearer. My expression becomes the wearer’s and entices the viewer to become a part of that relationship as well. Through these interactions and connections jewelry takes on a life of its own and creates a unique dialogue.
Inspiration for my work comes from observation of the world around me. I am drawn to both organic forms and man-made structures, found in architecture and industrial design. I explore the delicate balance between these two worlds and incorporate these ideas into my jewelry. By juxtaposing natural elements such as feathers with geometric forms like acrylic cubes, I create dynamic relationships within my pieces.
Materials also serve as a source of inspiration and guide me in the design process. Sterling silver is not only attractive, but also exceptionally strong, malleable and ductile. These properties allow the metal to respond well to the various techniques I employ. I often incorporate other materials into my jewelry as well. Visually, sterling silver is clean and bright and contrasts nicely with the matte surface of the acrylic elements...
