Artist Statement for Avi Deshmukh

|
My paintings are "A dialogue between the abstract and the representational". Painting, for me, is about color, shape, and space. I am a colorist. I like color and its expressive value. My landscape paintings are interpretations of real places. The color relates light with subject. The broad simplified forms whether it's a barn or house dominate the space. I rely more on spontaneity and try to abstract the color relationship of a specific moment in nature using my own interpretation of colors and forms. The transparent colors overlap one another and underlying colors glow from within. Each painting is painted several times to achieve the desired effect.
