| Your Personal Biography |
Born 1948 in Walcz, Poland. After high-school graduation, intensively self-educated himself with help of various
private teachers - in visual arts, as well as in music.
Until his mid-forties, travelled extensively throughout whole world, accumulating different visual values of various
cultures. Settling down in Poland and opening his art-studio, begun using those vast visual experiences in his own unique, personal way.
Being always fascinated by the role of light in visual art, he went further and deeper into the subject and started
experimenting with light comming through different artworks. That’s how the idea of translucent art was born.
This brought him to his favorite mediums: various kinds of glass and resins, where he developed his own technigues.
Additionaly, wanting to free translucent artworks from day-light dependance, he created new display method called
BAP to backlite those works adequately.
His art explorations often relate to music and also to human nature, moods and feelings.
Besides starting anew his painting again, this time from the glass-arts-man perspective, begining of new
century brought him broader interest in his art throughout Europe. Qualifications for international art festivals in
London, Berlin, Florence Biennale resulted with inclusion in international art-albums to be distributed worldwide
in 2008: “Masters of Today”, “Trends” and italian “Contemporary Art Dictionary 2008”.
Lately received italian prize PREMIO ALBA 2008.
His artworks are on permanent display at TAG gallery in Lodz. Poland and can also be viewed on his website

Art critic wrote lately on Gierlowski’s art in biggest Polish daily:
“ Gierlowski's backlit glass artworks in a form of wall pictures use his own display method called
BAP (Backlit Art Picture) that frees them from daylight dependence, thus enabling placement everywhere,
to be enjoyed any time. Due to careful choice of colours, it looks terrific without backlight, but when
backlit, also moodily enlights your room. His unique art lamps are often music-related, not only due
to shade creation but also because of usage of real instruments as a bases. That's useful art nouveau
tradition of applied arts in contemporary aesthetics at its best.
His oil paintings, generaly nearly abstract yet allegoricaly symbolic, are often a bit ironic or
sarcastic, especialy in “Human nature” series, where his imaginative creatures present real
people’s moods, emotions and behaviours.
His painting techniques are far from academic ones. That’s where traces of stained glass techniques’
thinking can be seen. This is what, together with very personal colour pallete, makes them wonderfully
original and uniquely outstanding” |
