Artist Statement:
I am a reverse glass artist
from Senegal, West Africa. I
paint in a variety of styles
from traditional to
contemporary. Reverse glass
painting originated in North
Africa when verses from the
Koran were painted for Muslim
pilgrims passing through the
area. The art form spread to
West Africa around the 19th
century and expanded beyond
religious verses, it later
depicted religious figures
like Cheikh Amadou Bamba and
scenes from the bible like
Noah's Ark. Contemporary
reverse glass painting depicts
daily life in Senegal....
