Artist Statement for Daniel Aquilla
Truth is, art has many faces. When it is first created, a meaningful painting carries with it a voice with a message from the artist who tries to reach out to the world. The true artist bares the soul in the only way he or she can. The work of art is very personal, but the artist is also aware that not everyone will interpret the creation in the same way. After all, even the purchase of art - if not purely for investment - is very personal as the collector purchases a piece of "spiritual DNA" from the artist. My bio/statement is the accumulation of emotional bits and pieces that my heart and soul has projected or materialized it to share in some form or another. And yet, on rare occasions, art can satisfy two sides of the coin.
If the art catches your eye, alters your direction or stimulates a reaction, then the artist has fulfilled his commitment to evolve as an artist with his style.
I embrace a style that can be called a modern magical surrealism or abstract. This is art that comes from the spirit, exploring the dream universe of the soul as it matures, evolves and allows me to reflect these beautiful illusionary images for all whom wish to view them. I find my art to be a renewing, expanding, a healing process which gives me enlightened and emotional recalls which I share in these living entities of reflected colors. As I work, I am transported to a quiet place with my spirit and God's warmth manifested. Time vanishes as I work, and the marvelous works of the Master Creator emerges from me as visual gifts materializing on my board(canvas). The technology and terminology is a factor in applying paint to achieve the look, emotion and depth, but it is nothing without the inner spirit's capabilities to capture the image for me so I might reveal or reflect it back with emotions or movement in these metallic communities of colored pigments. Sounds a lot like our community of colored pigments on this sphere we call "earth" now doesn't it....
I sometimes wonder and say, "I hope my work imparts my love, passion, and reverent appreciation of our sphere, space and its Maker."
