Artist Statement:
To me art is an opportunity to enter the world of exploration, experimentation and what-if states of mind. Where the whole is not always the primary focus of attention, but rather the end result of expansion and growth from the tiniest particles and texture. Primarily my art concerns the use of textures and revolves around abstracts, surrealism and non-true-to-form art works. Other times, my artwork will be deliberate with the whole already conceived, but requiring interesting textures, elements and features to construct it.
Given the fact that I was virtually blind for much of my childhood and wore glasses as thick as coke bottle bottoms, I gained a deep appreciation for textures and looking at things up close. After twelve years of observing what things actually look like in a magnified way my mind has built an inventory or catalog of textural references that I use within my artwork. Given that, I find it odd and contradictory that I should be compelled to choose not to apply the correct texture to a given object or subject. That is to say, I enjoy applying the texture of an orange to a tree or the transparency of glass...
