Artist Statement:
I use the quilt as a means of self-expression and approach the tactile and satisfying process of sewing, layering and joining fabric in my own individual way. My artwork evolves from observation and inspiration and often expresses personal or social issues that explore a mix of abstract and innovative ideas with an ever-changing variety of surface techniques, combined with colour, texture and stitch.
All of my quilts are unique, ‘one-off’’ individual pieces. Colours range from pastel, simple planes expressing pure, clean hues to rich, vibrant, primaries and combine surface techniques that include an expressive mix of Procion MX and H dyes (layered using direct application), acrylic paint, mono-printing and other various techniques which include silkscreen and digital print. Fabrics used are light weight 100% plain cotton canvas fused onto a medium weight Vilene foundation support finally machine stitching with multi coloured threads’. Smaller works are finished by stretching on to wooden frames or artists’ stretchers.
My current work divides into three categories – ‘studio quilts’ which are very special individual studies, often large scale in the region of two metres square wall hangings, ‘graffiti collage hangings’ which are inspired by personal and social issues that incorporate text ...

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
For as long as I can remember, I have expressed myself through artwork. I remember that as a child I was always drawing, painting or designing and cutting paper outfits for my cardboard cut-out dolls. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I am a textile artist living in Cardiff, South Wales - I make work that is connected to the tradition of quilt-making, but with a distinctly contemporary air. Colour, texture and form coupled with life experiences influence and inspire my work, which has been a major part of my life for the last 20 years.
Over the years my work has grown out of a passion for pattern, shape and colour, linked with a love of fabric, stitching, collage, drawing, painting and traditional patchwork quilts. I use quilt making as a vehicle for both personal expression and social commentary.
My formal training was in Fashion Design in which I won a fellowship with the B.B.S.I, consequently specialising in shoe design, followed by a career working as a designer for the clothing Industry.
I have exhibited worldwide and my work has been purchased by museums in the UK and US, including the Museum of Art and Design, New York, my quilts can also be found in private collections in Europe, the US and Japan.
My work has been written about extensively and I have been the recipient of international awards including that of two National Eisteddfod awards - 1994 and 2008. I have served as a selector for art and craft groups including the Makers Guild, also as juror for the Welsh Artist of the Year competition. In 2009 I have been invited to be an international juror for the 2010 international quilt competition and exhibition EXNA IV, Switzerland. I was also chosen by the Welsh Office to represent Wales in an exhibition of Welsh Art and Craft with the Hankyu Corporation, Osaka, Japan in 2002.
I have given workshops and talks on contemporary techniques in quilt making and have previously been employed to work with the public on Interactive quilt projects that include; The Butetown History and Art Centre Community Quilt and The Owain Glyndwr Centenary Quilt.
I actively support a number of groups and am currently a member of the International group Quilt Art (since 1993), The Society of Designer Craftsmen, Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and Fibre Art Wales which I co founded in 1999 I was the groups first chairman and now work as the webmaster and again am the current chair
