Artist Statement:
I make paintings with textured surfaces formed by mixing sand and
other materials with paint. They are somewhat reminiscent of the
surfaces of the old walls, buildings and ruins I saw when I toured
Italy.
But these paintings are about more than interesting surface textures.
They are more about the feelings one has when faced with the ancient
structures and old walls, the weathered and scarred but still
standing works of humanity. They're about those parts of our best
efforts that do not erode with time even as our structures (even
those made for gods) and our own bodies gradually succumb to it.
They're about time and the timeless human spirit.
