Artist Statement:
My current work is an exercise
in emotional realism. The
texture of the paper is the
only background - context is
what you make it. Often,
orientation is arbitrary. This
is a play on eye and
brain-hemisphere dominance.
The content, however, is
purely personal, sometimes a
way of representing what is
better left unsaid. In order
to avoid hiding my
preoccupations without being
crude or unsubtle, I limit my
palette, tools, and media to
those which I find honest and
elegant in their simplicity,
or, occasionally, what I see
as ingenious and bizarre in
their complexity.

Among those preoccupations to
be found in these pieces are
dynamic balance, individual
color relationships (and our
direct responses to them), the
need (or absence of need) to
specify from abstraction, and
a fractal quality of
communicated understanding.

I'm also interested in making
a good picture, that, like a
poem, is capable of
interacting with spaces other
than the schizophrenic
white... while retaining its
identity.
