Artist Statement for Mary Backer

|
The arrangement of shapes, along with the organization of space and movement into a harmonious composition, rather than the subject matter itself, is the primary goal of my work.
My current subject matter are the flowers of my garden. My floral paintings reflect my love of natural things that are beautiful and pleasing to the eye. The representational image is my bridge of communication to the viewer. My work reflects my personal way of seeing. People often miss the beauty around them, I like to help them see it more fully through my paintings.
The viewer is invited to share my way of seeing, my hope is that he or she will enjoy my work.
