Artist Statement for Brent Bauer

|
As an artist and scuba diver, one of my goals is to open a window into the diver's eye view to share with other divers, and provide undersea portraits of nature for those who cannot or may never see the undersea world first hand.
As an active Open Water SCUBA Instructor, I have been diving for over 25 years from the icy Great Lakes to the warm waters of the Cayman Islands.
Each portrait of nature is based on my personal encounters and impressions of the undersea world, and will be available in either signed limited editions or signed open editions.
I hold a Master of Fine Arts and am a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators. I taught courses in Medical and Biological Illustration at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore Maryland for 10 years.
It seemed only natural to capture the undersea world not with a net or speargun, but with brushes, and canvas. Working in oils, watercolor and mixed media, my aim is to create an original collection of undersea portraits which will capture the pageantry and realism of the undersea world.
I have had limited time in the last few years to paint, as I went back to school and earned a dental degree, also performing a 2 year hospital residency in Las Vegas, Nevada. I hope now to have more time to devote to painting, and finish several works that are in progess. I have recently moved to Tucson, Arizona and plan to begin some paintings with a southwestern theme to add to my undersea collection.
