Artist Statement:
Expression above all else.
My work is in a constant evolutionary state. I work hard at never letting my emotions or visions rest. One needs to hear and heed the voices that can lead and push us into different directions.
My paintings range from the representational to the expressionistic, I ...

ARTIST STATEMENT
Expression, above all else. To let the viewer see that even the commonplace in nature can be more, and is worth our notice and concern. I do this with color and texture of paint, I am as concerned about the physical appearance of the medium, as I am about the subject. Paint, brushes, subject matter, all are tools to be used to express my vision.
I want to draw the viewer in. To show all the layers of the creative process, but not to tell all. The viewer must become a part of the creative process, to see the clues I give and fill in the blanks, becoming a part of the work.
BIOGRAPHY
“You paint representational, but also like an abstract artist,” said a fellow painter of Brockman’s paintings.
Mark R Brockman has been painting for over thirty years, honing the craft of painting into art. He works in numerous media, Oil and Pastel being most prevalent. His paintings, though representational, are expressionistic in nature, with great concern for color and the look and texture of the paint, much as the Abstract Expressionists. The artist, in fact, is always pushing the line between abstraction and the representational.
Brockman’s paintings are in numerous private collections across the country as well as in Germany. He has participated in many juried, invitational and one-man shows, and has a number of awards. His larger paintings being painted in the studio, he is an avid Plein Air painter. He is represented by the Chadds Ford Gallery and Art Resource, a corporate dealer. Brockman teaches paintings classes at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center in Frederick, Maryland, as well as independent painting workshops. He is frequently asked to give demonstrations of his painting technique in oils and pastels for art organizations.
Brockman lives in Orrtanna, PA where he has a studio and gallery (open by appointment only). After having lived in Maryland and Washington state he has been a resident of Pennsylvania for over twenty years and is proud to call Adams County and Gettysburg, home. “It feels good to finally have roots.” He has been married to Kathleen, for over thirty years and credits her for any success he may have, through her encouragement and support. He has two grown children each exploring the arts in their own way.
