| Your Personal Biography |
As far back as my childhood and throughout my educational career, most currently with San Francisco State University, I have focused on portraying my subject matter in a photo realistic style.
Once I select the subject matter to be rendered I focus on achieving a high sense of contrast between lights and shadows in order to produce a fully composed piece. To create this high contrast I'll wait until the light source is at it’s harshest before capturing its effect. This in turn intensifies the shadows creating a dramatic feel. Compositionally I attempt to spot light the subject in order to isolate it and display a sentiment of loneliness. This series of charcoal drawings is my first attempt at merging these different aspects on a larger scale.
As an artist I have always been fascinated by the imagination and subject matter of Hieronymus Bosch. Future works I plan to do will merge a sense of the Baroque period pieces with a world similar to that of Bosch within a surrealistic context. |
