Artist Statement:
Fashion is my muse. Painting is a means of exploring and uncovering my visual attraction to fashion. What color combinations, forms and textures of contemporary styles represented in fashion magazines appeal to me? How can I expose and exploit these qualities? I have been working on this series for four years and each painting tells me something more about the direction I want to go. By seeing what I create I learn where to go next, a continual experimentation of how to make it better, more what I want. In this series of paintings I exaggerate the strangely beautiful and unexpectedly glamorous and simplify in semi-abstraction the bold and beautiful appeal of fashion. I am a painter and I cannot deny I think like a painter. I do uncover explanations as to why I paint what I do but ultimately I am lead by a vision not by a concept. The concept comes after.
Concept. My paintings could be seen as a journal or diary recording my search for beauty determined by my environment. In this way the painting process is a reflection of my present situation of city dwelling and my weakness under a consumerist influence for materialistic ...
